Former Royal Press Secretary Ed Perkins joins Portland

Ed Perkins – currently Communications Secretary to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry – joins Portland as a Senior Adviser.

Ed, who joins in October to work across both UK and International clients, was appointed Communications Secretary to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry two years ago.

Very few people have managed communications for such truly global figures as the Royal Family, let alone combined this with a career as a senior broadcast journalist, and Ed will bring a huge wealth of experience to Portland’s clients, whether they are high profile individuals, companies or international bodies.

He led communications on the birth of Prince George – memorably carrying the official announcement of the Prince’s birth by hand to be displayed on the gates of Buckingham Palace, under the eyes of the world’s media – as well as the Cambridges’ hugely successful tour of Australia and New Zealand this year, and most recently Price Harry’s Invictus Games in London.

In his time with the Royal Household, he co-ordinated media on royal engagements in 25 countries across Europe, North America, Africa, Australasia, the Middle and Far East.

Prior to his role with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, he was Assistant Press Secretary to The Queen in 2007, and also served as Press Secretary to The Duke of York. He went on to become Deputy Press Secretary to The Queen and Head of News at Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year, led on many events including the Queen’s Jubilee Concert. He also led communications for the Queen’s historic State Visit to Ireland in 2011.

He began his career as a journalist, spending eight years in television news at the BBC 6 o’clock News, and the ITV Evening News.
