The Challenge

Established in 2006, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation retains Portland to support all aspects of its communications and secure recognition for the Foundation as the world’s leading expert on governance in Africa.

The Approach

Each year Portland coordinates integrated digital and media campaigns for the Foundation’s key announcements of the Ibrahim Index of African Governance and the Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership. Portland also coordinates communications around the Governance Weekend, the Foundation’s annual event in Africa. We work in multiple languages and across media and digital platforms to help the Foundation connect with audiences throughout Africa and globally.

The Outcome

Over the last ten years, we have been involved in the delivery of 7,500 news articles, 500 interviews, 75 Op-Eds, 50,000 new Twitter followers and 30,000 Facebook likes. The Mo Ibrahim Foundation has been established as one of the foremost initiatives in Africa, helping to initiate widespread debate – both in Africa and beyond – on the standards by which leadership and governance should be assessed.
