The Portland Contacts app makes a splash

The Portland Contacts app makes a splash

Since we launched the Portland Contacts app a fortnight ago, we’ve had a brilliant response from the PR and Public Affairs community. Thank you to all of you who have downloaded it and given us your feedback – hearing about users’ experiences is the best way to hone an app like this, and you’ve been incredibly helpful.

Over 1,500 people are now using the app on their iPhones and iPads, and on the App store it currently has a customer rating of 4.5 out of 5. If you haven’t yet seen the app, it’s a regularly updated contacts database of key people in the media and politics, and is intended to be an essential mobile tool for anyone in the PR or Public Affairs business.

As the first app of its kind in the agency world, particularly a free app giving a fast route into the often hidden worlds of Westminster and the media, we couldn’t be sure how it would be received but the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive – including in PR Week. Here are just a few of the responses we’ve had:

Patrick Hennessy, Political Editor of the Sunday Telegraph:

“I can see this becoming an essential tool for business, the media and the political world. A well put-together and easy-to-use app which is the first of its kind I think.”

Shane Greer, CEO of Biteback Media:

“Loving the new @PortlandComms contacts app. Well worth a download!”

Simon Carter, Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications at The Scout Association:

“Excellent new media app released by @PortlandComms.”

Luke Pollard, Labour Blogger and campaigner:

“The new Portland app is very, very good. Want to see info on backbenchers in next update to be a Dods app killer.”

Simon Goldie, Head of External Relations at Lexis Nexis:

“For PR and public affairs professionals this is an incredibly handy tool.  While most people subscribe to paid for databases, this is free and is mobile.”

Chris Hogwood of London Councils:

“Good idea, well executed.”

Raheem Khassam, Executive Editor of TheCommentator.com:

“If you were thinking about getting rid of your iPhone for whatever reason, @PortlandComms and @GPW_Portland just changed your mind.”

You can download the app for free to your iPhone or iPad by searching for “Portland Contacts” on iTunes or by clicking here. If you already have it, please let us know your experience of it either on the App Store or by tweeting at @PortlandComms.
