My experience so far…

My experience so far…

Like most, if not all final year students at university, I struggled to pin down exactly what career I wanted to go into after graduation. I had a longstanding interest in politics and always saw myself working in the field. I just had no idea in what capacity. I was interested in the media, policy formation and the interaction of the public and private sector but didn’t know where that could lead.

The Portland Graduate Scheme, however, seemed to be a perfect fit; and so it has proved.

The variety of work across the rotations is exceptional, I’ve covered everything from international relations in the Government Advisory team to working on press campaigns in Health. Thanks to the rotation scheme, I’ve engaged in areas I would otherwise miss the opportunity to experience and learn from.

Line managers are highly responsive, I receive constant feedback on my work and I am given clear ideas about how I can improve. They, and the rest of the team, not only ensure that you are given work that you are most interested in but work that has a direct impact, whether you’re helping to inform clients on the challenges posed by Brexit or working on a campaign that has been picked up in the media.

For me, moving to London to start a job at an eminent communications agency was an exciting, if not daunting prospect. The culture at Portland has enabled me to settle in seamlessly. Portland pride themselves on being a collective, not a group of individuals, success is shared and good work is recognised. It also helps that it’s a huge amount of fun to work here.

My experience thus far has been extremely rewarding.

For those applying, I would encourage you to bring your enthusiasm, dedication and excellence to Portland and you will be rewarded.
