What struck me about working at Portland

The thing that struck me about working at Portland is the talent of the people around me. While it can be daunting at first, you quickly realise what an opportunity this is for you to learn and develop. I joined as an intern, and was immediately welcomed and made to feel part of the team, and I have enjoyed my time ever since.

Every day I look forward to picking my colleagues brains about things from best working practices to current affairs. This is not to mention how fun the environment can be at Portland, where everyone gets on and looks after each other. Coming out of University, I can’t think of a place I would rather have joined.

Day-to-day, I do a variety of tasks across communications, policy and public affairs. I enjoy how there is no typical day here and I always know I can speak to some of the best in the business across disciplines when I need to.

Beyond this informal support network, Portland provides great development opportunities through training or talks from external speakers from the world of politics and media. I don’t think many people get the opportunity to listen to Nick Clegg or Janan Ganesh on their lunchbreak!

I also know I am working for some of the world’s largest and most interesting organisations, thanks to Portland’s extensive list of clients. I work on high-profile national and global campaigns, and can point to work I have done that has made a real difference.
