Prior to joining Portland this year, Mike spent six years at the Bank of England, firstly as Head of Media & Stakeholder Relations and then Director of Communications.
During his time there, he modernised the Bank’s approach to traditional and digital/social media to reach a wider public audience, established an outreach and education programme, and commissioned and oversaw a BBC TV documentary about the Bank.
He has considerable experience of economic policymaking and financial services regulation, given the Bank’s responsibilities for that, as well as media relations, preparing senior executives for public appearances and events, and crisis communications.
Before joining the Bank, Mike was a journalist at Reuters for 25 years. His roles there included Europe Editor during the global financial crisis and ensuing euro zone crisis, UK Political Editor for the bulk of the Tony Blair era and Chief Economics Correspondent.
