As a newly-established UN agency, UN Women commissioned Portland to lead a global communications campaign around the launch of its flagship global report. Progress of the World’s Women: In Pursuit of Justice, was an important opportunity for the new UN agency to establish itself as a powerful voice on women’s issues and continue making the case for additional donor funding.
Working alongside the office of the executive director, we designed an integrated and targeted campaign to meet our clients’ objectives. Portland’s strategy centred on managing launch events in key cities and media hubs around the world. These included New York, London, Nairobi, Cairo, Mexico City and New Delhi.
The global launch generated extensive media coverage of the report in all target markets across Europe, North America, Latin America, Middle East/North Africa, Asia-Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa. Top global hits included a page in the Financial Times, a spread in The Guardian, and interviews on CNN, CNN en Espanol, Al-Jazeera and the BBC World Service. An Op-Ed campaign also resulted in coverage across 19 markets, while also unlocking new financial resources for the client’s work.
