Portland Profile

Pauline Guénot

This month’s Portland Profile features Pauline Guénot, Senior Account Manager in our Corporate Affairs team:

  • What is your favourite part about your role?

My role at Portland allows me to work across a blend of corporate, financial, and international development communications briefs, spanning multiple markets and scales. Every day, I get to collaborate with – and learn from – specialists in finance, media and politics.  I advise clients who are shaping economies and building a better future, both in the UK and internationally. I particularly enjoy operating at the intersection of business strategy and geopolitical context – helping clients build credibility with stakeholders across different audiences.

  • What has been your favourite experience at Portland so far?

I was lucky enough to be in Paris for the 2024 Olympics – the City of Paris hired Portland to support them with communications around this global event. Our team was deployed at the Paris Media Centre, where we welcomed hundreds of French and international journalists each day. A particular highlight was being invited to the Opening Ceremony, which we watched from the Hôtel de Ville. It was as much of a human experience as a professional one. Witnessing the city’s energy, emotion and pride each day was really unforgettable.

  • What is your area of expertise?

I joined Portland with a financial communications background, supporting UK PLCs through IPOs, investor activism, and CMA investigations. I managed financial calendars for around 15 clients at a time. At Portland, I’ve been able to scale that expertise – helping build and protect the reputation of some of the world’s most dynamic companies, foundations and international organisations across media, capital markets and politics. I love the challenge of translating their mandate into clear, compelling narratives.

  • What do you do to switch off from work?

When I’m in London, I enjoy a hot Pilates or hot barre class – leaving your phone in the changing room is the best way to switch off (besides, you wouldn’t want your phone to explode in a 35-degree room!). When I’m travelling, the best way to reset is in the middle of the ocean. I started surfing in Morocco a few years ago, and never miss a chance to keep improving.

  • What is something that not many people know about you?

I was born in a small village in the French countryside, far from the corporate world. Nothing in my surroundings pointed me toward a career in the City – until I visited London for the first time with my grandfather as a teenager and was instantly drawn in. I actually secured my first work experience in London from my childhood bedroom, cold-messaging professionals on LinkedIn. I’ve learned that boldness – or perhaps gentle persistence – pays off – and it’s a principle I still live by today.
