Michael has been active in European affairs for over 35 years – successively as a journalist, an official at the European Commission but also at the EU Council, and since 2002 as Partner in the team. He provides strategic advice and direction, mostly to corporate clients, informal coalitions and industry associations. Michael also advises on communications in difficult circumstances, such as antitrust proceedings or regulatory threats.
The “EU’s domestic policies” are his field of expertise – areas where Brussels sets the agenda for business or has direct powers of intervention such as competition policy, the internal market, consumer protection, environment policy and transport.
Michael has a degree from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Strasbourg and a diploma from the College of Europe in Bruges.
A German national, he is fluent in English and French; he gets by in Italian and has some notions of Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese.
