This month’s Portland Profile features Daisy Robertson, Account Director in Portland’s PA & Policy team.
What is your favourite part about your role?
You hear it time and time again from Portlanders, but it truly is the people who work at Portland that make it such an incredible place to work and, of course, the clients. Every day, I’m inspired by the intelligence, creativity, and kindness of my colleagues in the Public Affairs & Policy team and across wider Portland. I feel incredibly lucky to work with such talented professionals and fantastic businesses.
What has been your favourite experience at Portland so far?
Having joined Portland five years ago through the graduate scheme, I’ve had the opportunity to grow and develop my career here – so choosing just one standout experience is tough! One of the things I love most about Portland is how closely we work with our clients, often feeling like an extension of their team. I’ve been fortunate to have taken on two secondments during my time here, including my current role at Apple. It’s been an invaluable experience, giving me insight into the inner workings of a company, strengthening relationships, and broadening my perspective on public affairs and policy.
What is your area of expertise?
I’ve always considered myself a generalist, spanning public affairs, policy, and corporate communications. That said, I’ve been increasingly drawn towards tech policy during my time at Portland – an area that is constantly evolving and endlessly fascinating.
What do you do to switch off from work?
Spending time with friends and family, especially over good food, is one of my favourite ways to unwind. I’m also in training for the London Marathon this coming April. My increasingly long runs have become a great way to switch off and tune into my favourite podcast or running playlist. When I can, I make time for a lunchtime walk (especially when the weather cooperates!) and get a coffee and a pastry from my favourite local cafe.
What is something that not many people know about you?
I’d love to say it’s that I am running the London Marathon in April 2025 for the wonderful charity, NSPCC, but I’ve told everyone that (including in these questions!) So I’ll go with that I starred in Will Young’s 2009 music video for ‘Friday’s Child’. I’m the one with the large daisy flower on her swimsuit if anyone is interested!
