Working in a challenging global environment

Working in a challenging global environment

If 2017 has proven anything, it is that the world is becoming increasingly impossible to predict or forecast. In a world of globalisation, where technology has the opportunity to transcend borders like never before, events on one part of the world can easily have a bearing across the entire globe.

As a graduate with a background in International Relations, Portland’s global footprint initially attracted me to the Graduate programme. In such a short space of time, Portland has exposed me to work with a wide range of international clients, working on some of the biggest issues that affect our time. Whether it is supporting a campaign on promoting global health or supporting a government in a time of crisis, Portland’s Graduate programme is an opportunity to work on issues that have a real impact on the world around you.

However, Portland have not just exposed me to international issues. Portland’s vast array of UK based clients has also provided me the opportunity to refine my knowledge in areas I have long neglected. Whether that is brushing up on UK politics, or learning how to engage with journalists, it is hugely rewarding to see myself improving with each working day.

Portland is a company where everyone is invested in your success. Everyone is approachable, ready to provide you with expertise on how to become the best you can be. This has been useful in recognising where I am going well, and areas where I need to push myself to make sure I am at my best.

Even now, I think people underestimate how hard it is to be a graduate fresh out of university. It is a period of excitement, but also uncertainty, where you question your place in the world. So if you want to embark on a career which is topical, with the chance to make an instant impact, then I highly recommend applying to Portland’s Graduate programme.
