Portland hires Dan Timms

Portland has won the race to sign Dan Timms, a senior member of the 2012 Olympics communication team.

Dan – who will join our Corporate Communications practice this month – arrives at Portland after successful roles as Head of Government Olympic Communications for London 2012 and Head of Strategic Communications for the Government Olympic Executive, where he led the design of a multi-million pound drive to promote the UK off the back of the Games: the ‘GREAT’ campaign.

His experience at the centre of one of the largest communications challenges of the decade will be invaluable, further strengthening our ability to integrate media and political campaigning across some of the highest profile issues.

Dan has an extensive background in government communications including time as a speech-writer and adviser to both Tessa Jowell and Jeremy Hunt. He has also worked in a range of high-profile media spokesman roles at the European Commission, the European Parliament and with Oxfam. His arrival is the second major appointment in the communications team, joining us just weeks after Dana Gloger, the former Consumer Affairs Editor of The Mail on Sunday.

Adrian Warr, Partner for Communications, said,

“There was no communications campaign bigger or more successful than London 2012. So it is no surprise that Dan had plenty of offers. We are delighted that he is joining our team and know he will add a huge amount to what we offer our clients”

Dan Timms, said:

“I am thrilled to be joining Portland. After the Olympics I was looking for the next big challenge and, in the end, it was an easy decision to make. Portland is an agency going places and it is going to be an exciting ride.”

Godric Smith, former Executive Director of Government Communications, said:

“’Dan played a major part in the success of Government communications for 2012 over several years – from leading the creative phase of the GREAT campaign through to wider strategic planning and messaging. He is a real talent and Portland is lucky to have him.”
